Rather than a rehearsal dinner, the couple hosted a family-only hour at their favorite Mexican restaurant so they could mingle, catch up, and snap a few photos. Then, the rest of their guests trickled into the space for a laidback welcome party, complete with colorful flowers and cake. This is Texas, so naturally, there was a mariachi band to accompany the festivities!
Although the couple decided not to have a wedding party, they still wanted to honor their friends. So, they hosted a friends-only brunch on their wedding morning instead of spending hours getting ready—trading matching PJs for mimosas.
But their reception was where the full vision came into view, preceded by a father-of-the-bride speech during cocktail hour that welcomed everyone into the space like they were attending a family dinner. The flowers on the tablescapes were minimal to avoid an overly wedding-like feel, arranged in mono-bloom bunches so as not to outshine the other design elements. The linens were sumptuous without being frilly—picture moss green velvet and crisp stripe patterns—and even the salt and pepper shakers were intentionally chosen.
Oh, and the previously mentioned menu booklets and table lamps? Those were present, too, along with a miniature wedding cake “centerpiece” and cake-cutting knife on every guest table so the couple’s loved ones could join them in carrying on that beloved tradition.
An enchanted greenhouse restaurant or Laura and John’s wedding reception? Our lips are sealed.
Sometimes Dallas can feel like a small world! Sarah knew John before he and Laura inquired with us, and we also planned the wedding of Laura’s brother. Bringing this Brook Hollow wedding together began by sitting down with Laura and her mom, Dee Ann, to discuss their vision. Dee Ann has specific tastes—she knows what she likes and doesn’t!
And something that she loves is a good, upscale restaurant vibe, with menu booklets and lamps on the tables. That image became the jumping-off point for planning a no-frills, devastatingly chic tented wedding.
From the decor to the guest experience, Laura and John’s wedding was about turning tradition on its head. We loved their candid approach of not taking any traditions at face value and finding what felt comfortable for them instead.
With the right steps, the right decisions, you’ll naturally have an amazing celebration - and have a little fun along the way too.
Let’s dream together.
I see a world of possibilities for you.
And that’s a pretty fun place to start.
