While as destination wedding planners, we’ll always have a soft spot for a bit of spectacle, some wedding days call for something quieter, guided by intention and rooted in storytelling, heritage, and the kind of authentic connection that’s forged over a dinner table. Such was the case for Riley and Luke’s celebration.

Before the vows were exchanged at Perkins Chapel on the campus of Southern Methodist University, where their love story first began, the weekend opened with a rehearsal dinner and welcome party at Gilley’s. A South Carolina native, Luke wanted to tip his hat to his adopted Texas home. Plaid table linens and leather accents grounded the evening in Southern sensibility, while the venue’s iconic neon sign and mechanical bull delivered playful nods to the Lone Star State.

Riley, never one to crave the spotlight, envisioned a wedding day that unfolded naturally, especially at the reception. Together, we chose to forgo announcements and pre-programmed events, save for the introductions and first dance, allowing the evening to find its own rhythm.

And unfold it did. Beneath a tent dripping with greenery and cascading florals, swept into an inner sanctum set aglow with chandeliers and candlelight, the couple and their guests gave themselves to the spirit of celebration. The checkered dance floor gleamed as the hem of Riley’s blush gown whispered over it, a garment she later shed in favor of a floral mini dress and cowboy boots as polished elegance gave way to pure revelry.

And the color palette? Well, we still daydream about: richly hued satin moss layered with olive, ivory, and petal pink—a combination that felt as expansive and auspicious as the marriage itself. A gentle reminder that while bridal white may be traditional, it is far from inevitable.
