Some people have been dreaming of their wedding their whole life. That was certainly true for Kat, who, at thirteen years old, attended the wedding we planned for her older sister. After seeing what we put together for her sister, Kat confidently told us, “Julian, you will plan my wedding. It will be 3x bigger than this, and it will be in Colorado.” Well, we got two of the three! Her wedding was certainly bigger than her sister’s, but she decided to get married in the same location her sister had: Kiawah Island in South Carolina. Talk about a full circle moment!

We have a soft spot for planning destination weddings, as they allow us to spend more intentional time with our couples. For Kat and Kyle, that extra time meant we could infuse every element of the weekend with meaning, drawing inspiration not only from the natural beauty of The Dunlin but also from the warmth, style, and spirit they so effortlessly exude. We even got to visit their home! So much of their wedding weekend was influenced by the gentle hospitality Kat and Kyle extended to all of their guests.

Kat dreamt of a green and white wedding, and, being us, we found a way to make her theme unique and personal. We added intrigue to the design by intermingling chairs made of woven leather, brass, linen, and carved wood. We then combined this with textured linens, handcrafted glassware, and subtle, elegant floral installations. After our very first design meeting, Kat was so in love that she told us she wanted to style her own home just like this!

As luxury wedding planners, we always love to go above and beyond to create an unforgettable guest experience. The welcome party took place at Kat’s parents’ beachfront home on Kiawah Island. At the bar, guests were given different colored cups to signify how they knew the couple. This gave guests a unique way to mingle and swap stories about the couple they had come to celebrate. Complete with a roving band, the welcome party started Kat and Kyle’s wedding weekend on an incredible note.

Despite the downpour that started only moments before their wedding ceremony the following day, nothing could phase Kat and Kyle. We seamlessly transitioned to plan B, having the ceremony inside and the cocktail hour under a tent. The live band during their reception started the party, and the DJ at the after-party drove it home! The groom, a wedding DJ himself, had collaborated closely with the DJ and even spun a few tracks himself! Twelve years after meeting Kat, we were honored to plan and design a wedding that honored her sister’s celebration years prior, but with Kat’s own personality infused into every element.
